Who We Are
We began with the Flying F Ranch (Hugh Fleming) dispersal. Along with KLC Simmentals we purchased Hugh’s entire herd. Also, genetics were sourced from Dusty Simmentals (Elmer and Doris Nielson) and a dispersal of cow/calf pairs and open heifers from Wilf Davis, Brandon Man.
We have developed a functional cowherd through years of retaining our own replacement heifers. Short breeding season and heavy culling for feet, udder quality, disposition and fleshing ability. Our cows utilize extended-season grazing, chaff piles and swath grazing. Our cows are red or black moderate-framed cows selected for foraging and ability to produce consistent uniform calves and rebreed in a 42-day breeding season.
We have transitioned to late spring calving in Apr/May; working with nature, calving on pasture allows us to combine the peak growing season along with cows nutritional requirements and wean off heavy calves bred for performance. In March of 1994, we started annual production sales as Lazy Diamond A Simmentals along with KLC Cattle Company and Dusty Simmentals in Veteran. Each year we strive to produce a set of ranch bulls to meet the needs of commercial cattlemen.
Each year we source and select elite sires from North America utilized through artificial insemination, complimenting our own herd bulls. Herd bulls are selected for polled, calving ease, performance, thickness and maternal strength.
We then sell rising two year olds. These bulls are grown out naturally, giving us plenty of time to analyze these bulls and allow the cream to rise to the top. Only bulls that are easy fleshing, have sound structure, semen test, good disposition and moderate are selected for sale. Rest assured, bulls developed here will work hard to breed your cows for many years.
In 2019 we brought the sale home to Brownfield and held a video auction in the Brownfield Rec Centre. Bulls are penned at Ken and Treena’s ranch prior to the sale.
Adair Ranch is a family-run business, and our doors are always open.
